The Queen of Spades

March 2021
A dust jacket for The Queen of Spades by Alexander Pushkin. I researched Russian fashion and art trends of the time to make my art more authentic. I also subtly incorporated story elements into the design. Made in Illustrator and Indesign.

The Raven Cycle

February 2022
A series of 4 book covers I made for Maggie Stiefvater's series The Raven Cycle. I felt like their current covers (shown in the last image) didn't properly convey the amazing storytelling and magical feeling of this series. I combined mystical and natural elements of the story in bold illustrations. Made in Photoshop and InDesign.

Carrots

November 2022
A PSA poster series about the common myth that carrots make your eyesight better. I represented the myth conceptually. I researched WW2-era propaganda for the style, and unified the posters with their color scheme and repeated motifs. Made in Illustrator.

Time

September 2021
A project that explores time through units and increments. What better way to show time passing than the ever-changing sky? I used a modular system of triangles to show the sky on different dates, sunlight through a window, and the daylight cycle. I used and broke the grid in the form of a gif, poster, and booklet. Made in Illustrator and Blender.

Design Manifesto

December 2021
A website project where I had to represent my design process and "manifesto" in a website. This was my first time doing web design, so I did tons of research. I had to make a few compromises but managed to make a website I'm proud of. Made from scratch in VS code.
saabdo42.github.io/design-manifesto/
I recently updated it and cleaned the code a LOT with what I've learned about web design.

Juxtapositions

November 2020
3 animations I made exploring juxtapositions of real/fake, machine/organism, visible/invisible, etc. Made in Photoshop.

5 constraints

October 2020
A group project where we each gave each other 5 variations/constraints to remake a work of art. The digital painting was the original, and I found 5 creative ways to remake it.
